About the Department:
A beautiful flower burgeoned in the garden of B.V.V.S Basaveshwar Arts,
Science and Commerce college, Vidyagiri, Bagalkot in the year 2012 and its fragrance
pervaded all over the place. The Department of English is one of its resplendent
petals. The Department of English has been playing a vital and significant role ever
since its inception in 2012 in shaping the careers of thousands of students. English is
offered as a basic subject for all the courses such as B.A, B.Sc and B.Com and it is
also offered as a optional subject for B.A.
The Department of English aims for the holistic development of the students.
The Department aims at providing extensive knowledge of literary history, literary
theory and form, and a wide variety of interest to delve deep into creative gusto and
literary taste. Our department is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive
education in English language and literature, empowering them to become effective
communicators, critical thinkers, and global citizens.
Language Laboratory:
Our department is equipped with a state-of-the-art Language Lab in the year
2025, which provides students with hands-on experience in language skills, such as
listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The lab is equipped with latest software and
technology, enabling students to engage in interactive learning activities. The
multimedia facilities offered in the laboratory to provide the students with material on
English phonetics sounds and syllabus along with lessons on English grammar
covering all the essential components as those of tense connected speech and clear
pronunciation.

Vision
To provide quality education that enables the students to evolve into an intellectually
competent, socially responsible, professionally groomed and emotionally matured
citizen.
Mission
 To make the students capable of reading critically, writing clearly and
exercising their faculty of imagination effectively to interpret, evaluate, analyze
and contextualize the literary and the social texts.
 To improve communication skill for exposure of ideas, replies, official
procedure and presentation of concepts.
 Preparing the students to face a challenge in the competitive global scenario.
 Learner centric language teaching.
 To minimize the mother tongue influence (MTI) on English language.
 To help the students achieve language proficiency.
 To organize seminar, workshop, symposium, discussion to promote innovation
and generate new ideas.
Aims and objectives
 To increase students ability to be comportable with English while reading or
listening.
 To facilitate students to write and speak good English in all situations.
 To enhanced language skill especially in the areas of grammar and
pronunciation.
 To enable the learner to communicate effectively in English and to cope
themselves up with the trends of globalization.
 To develop interest in appreciation of literature of the world.
 Gaining semantic as well as phonetic command over the language.

Pedagogy:
The College is affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi and
Bagalkot University, Jamakhandi and the Department of English follows the
University syllabus.
Learning outcomes
After the completion of UG course:
 Students are able to understand the different sentence patterns in English.
 Learners improve their ability to express themselves in English in formal and
informal situations.
 Students are able to discover the pleasure in reading prose and friction
 Helps to create awareness among the learners about different forms and themes
of poetry produced across the globe in the history of literature.
